Green Guard Standard Thinner is a refined petroleum-based solvent used to reduce the viscosity of oil-based paints and coatings. By thinning paint, it improves application smoothness and enhances coverage while allowing extended working time for detailed finishing. Additionally, it effectively dissolves residues, enabling thorough cleaning of brushes, rollers, and other painting equipment.
The solvent evaporates at a controlled rate, ensuring that the coating cures evenly without streaks or uneven patches.
H2 – Material Quality, Durability and Environmental Performance
This thinner is produced from high-purity petroleum fractions to maintain consistent performance and minimize impurities. In Kenyan environments, it performs reliably under typical temperatures and humidity levels found in workshops and construction sites. It is suitable for indoor and sheltered outdoor use when adequate ventilation is ensured.
The product is intended for thinning and cleaning purposes only and does not provide protective or decorative properties by itself. Safe handling and proper disposal are recommended to minimize environmental impact.
H2 – Installation, Handling and Compatibility
Application involves mixing the thinner with oil-based paints or lacquers, or using it directly for cleaning tools. Measure carefully according to the paint or coating manufacturer’s guidelines to achieve the desired consistency. For cleaning, brushes and rollers can be soaked or wiped with the thinner and then allowed to dry.
Use personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection, to prevent skin or eye contact. Green Guard Standard Thinner is compatible with oil-based paints, varnishes, and lacquers, but should not be mixed with water-based coatings or reactive chemicals.
H2 – Typical Applications in Kenya
Green Guard Standard Thinner is widely used across residential, commercial, and light industrial painting projects. Contractors apply it to walls, doors, and metal fixtures for smooth finishes. Workshops use it to clean tools and equipment efficiently, while homeowners rely on it for DIY painting, furniture refinishing, and small maintenance tasks.
It works effectively with oil-based paints and related coatings available in the Shop and complements other surface preparation and finishing products offered by Ngong Hills Merchants.
